On one of our days in Venice, we hit the island of Burano. There's a bus-like boat system in Venice, which makes it really easy to check out the surrounding islands. While the island of Murano failed to impress me-how much blown glass does one person really need?-I really liked Burano. The colored housed brightened up the gloomy day, and it was fun to walk down the small alleyways and explore.
Talking to some of the people that live on the island, they told us that if you want to paint your house, you have to petition the government, and they'll tell you what color you can paint your house. If you visit Venice, and have a few hours to boat off to Burano, check it out.
